When Çiğdem first contacted me to photograph her Ankara wedding, she said the words that I’ve heard from many couples before; she didn’t like the fake smiles in wedding photos, and she was looking for a wedding photographer who captures natural, emotional moments. That was the reason why she chose me.

Çiğdem is an architect, and Cihan is a pilot for THY. They live in Istanbul, so we had our first meeting here. They said they would have the official ceremony in Istanbul. But the wedding reception at Ankara was more important for them. That was what they asked me to photograph.
On the wedding morning, we visited a senior’s caring home, where Çiğdem’s old landlady was staying. Çiğdem lived at her home for a long time, and they developed a beautiful friendship. She would not be able to come to the wedding, so we visited her instead.
Afterwards, we went to a beauty salon for her makeup. Her aunt was a professional hairdresser, so we went to the family home for her hair. She also put on her wedding dress here. She wore the the same headpiece that her mother used at her wedding.
In the evening, we arrived at the hotel early, because she and her friends were going to decorate the place themselves. The reception started with a first dance, and they held an unofficial symbolic ceremony here, for their guest who did not attend the official one in Istanbul.
