Daha önce Elif ve Gürhan’ın düğününden birkaç fotoğraf yayınlamıştım. Nihayet düğün hikayesini paylaşma fırsatı buluyorum. Sabahın saat 3′üne kadar süren çekimlerde o kadar çok şey yaşandı ki, hangisini anlatacağımı bilemedim :)
I had already posted a few photos from Elif and Gurhan’s wedding. And finally I can get a chance to share their wedding-day story. I have to admit it was too hard to pick amongst the too many exciting moments from that day.
Gürhan ile ilk kez Esra ve Aykut’un düğününde karşılaşmıştık. Aykut’un kuzeni ve düğünde “best man”i idi. 3 yıl sonra kendi düğünü için beni aradığında, çok eğlenceli bir düğünle daha karşı karşıya olduğumu tahmin etmiştim :) Bir de dünya tatlısı Elif ile tanışınca emin oldum.
I first met Gurhan at Esra and Aykut’s wedding. He was Aykut’s cousin and best man. When he called me 3 years later for his own wedding, I could tell I was up to shooting another joyful wedding. And when I met with his lovely bride Elif, I saw I was right.

On the wedding day I met with Elif at Les Ottomans. Here are some shots from the day.

I can’t seem to recall exactly how we ended up in this moment, but her gesture initiated from a totally harmless conversation. And don’t ask me what it means in Turkey, ask her :)

I was shooting the wedding dress when Gurhan jumped in to try the dress on himself :)
Gürhan “ben esmeri sashimi ile beslerim” diyor, ama Elif durumdan pek hoşnut değil.
Gurhan wants to feed Elif, but apparently she’s not a fan of sashimi.
Bütün gün hep birlikte o kadar çok şeye güldük ki. İşte bir başka komedi. İlk karede Elif asil masumiyetiyle gelinliğini giyiyor. İkincisi 10 dakika sonra, giymeyi unuttuğu tarlatanı gelinliğin altından geçirmeye çalışıyor.
We all laughed at too many things that day. Here is another one. First photo shows Elif wearing her dress, in all her noble innocence. Second photo is ten minutes later, after she realized she hadn’t put on her tarlatan, so she is wearing it from under her dress.
Nikah öncesi çiftimizin bazı dostları sırayla konuşmalarını yaptılar. Bu kısımlara bayılıyorum. Türkiye’deki düğünlerin en büyük eksiği bu duygusal konuşmalar bence.
I always loved the emotional wedding toasts, and that is one thing I’d like to see more often in Turkish weddings.
Elif’in misafirlerine asıl büyük sürprizi, gelinliğini kestirmesiydi. Böylece daha rahat dans etmeyi hedefliyordu. Böylece daha düğün sırasında bir trash-the-dress seansı yaşamış olduk.
Elif’s biggest surprise to many guests was to get her wedding dress cut. She just wanted to dance freely without the obstruction. For me this meant a TDD session right on the wedding night :)
Dışarıda da kötü niyetli kişiler Gürhan’ı kıyafetlerinden kurtarmaya çalışıyordu :)
Meanwhile out in the living room, some evil souls were trying to get Gurhan free of his shirt :)
Düğünden birkaç hafta önceki görüşmemizde Elif’e, Kanada düğünlerinde şahit olduğum, damadın gözleri kapalı şekilde dişleriyle garter çıkarma merasiminden bahsetmiştim. Fikir çok hoşuna gitmişti. Ve düğün sırasında yanıma gelip bu fikri gerçekleştireceklerini fısıldadı. Vakit gelince aksiyona geçtik.
Weeks before the wedding I was telling Elif about the garter toss sessions I had photographed back in Canada, and she loved the idea. During the wedding she whispered to me that they decided to do it. And hell they did :)

Gurhan worships the belly-dancer. I’d rather not post the other things he did to her :)
